Declutter and Save Money?

I receive many questions on decluttering. Most of which are relatively similar. Everyone wants to know how to declutter their home. The hard part to that question is that people really don’t want to hear the answer to it. If you are really interested in decluttering your house you will need to have discipline and motivation, couple that with a plan and you are on the path to declutter success!
One such reader explained that via methods that she learned on this blog that she was actually able to save money. I have always been a sucker for anyone who has tips on being frugal so I prompted for more information. Here is what she told me:
Genevieve,
I want to thank you for your generous tips that you have supplied on your blog. I must say that I never thought I would actually follow through with it but your declutter tips have been great and have kept me motivated to finish off the tasks at hand. The best part is that I have actually saved some money as well. Thanks for all the tips.
I replied with:
Thank you for your email. It makes me feel good that the knowledge that I am spreading is helping you in a positive manner. I will try to maintain that level of positivity and information for all. Something that you wrote in your last email piqued my interest though, could you elaborate a bit on what you meant by “The best part is that I have actually saved some money”. I am sure my readers would be interested in hearing about this.

Well, to be very honest my apartment was an absolute mess. I couldn’t find anything and clutter was everywhere. I could not get organized for the life of me. I was spending money on organizational tools that I wouldn’t even use. I just bought them to make me feel better so that I would think I was doing something when I really wasn’t. I would always procrastinate. The worst part here is that because my apartment was so cluttered it made me want to be out of the house more.
Now that isn’t a bad thing by itself but, I was spending more money while I was out than I would have if I stayed in. Anytime a friend wanted to come over we would meet at a neighborhood starbucks to have a chat. This would have me paying a nice $6 for a coffee that I could have brewed at home, not to mention the dinner expenses that I had as well. It was just difficult being at home.
Now that I have finally taken a stand against clutter and started to declutter my apartment, I have been feeling a great weight lifted off of me. I feel less stressed and I don’t go out nearly as much anymore as I finally started to entertain guests at my home. This is how I saved money.
Hope your readers enjoy.
This was a positive email that I had received and I thought that I would share with everyone.
If you have a comment please feel free to let me know about your success and or failures. I always like to hear from you.
Keep it Clean!

I love your blog! Every post is so informative. Thank you!
Would you be interested in a link exchange with my newest blog? It sure could use a little link-love to get up and running and your blog seems to be a somewhat similar niche.

I’ve always been embarrassed about the lack of space that is in my place because of all the junk that’s lying around. I’ve got to stop being so lazy and just clean it up. Maybe I too can save a few bucks.
